Brita Corradini: A Unicorn, Double Chocolate Cake, and a Perfect Sunset…

It seemed too good to be true. I had a wish. It started as a secret wish, but slowly, the universe wiggled it out of me. I wanted a Vitamix blender. Oh, how I longed for one. I was blessed to know a friend (the same green smoothie master, Moana) who adored and fervently used her Vitamix. So, I enjoyed the it by association. But the association didn’t whip my pureed soups to a silky consistency or blend the boatload of kale I got in my CSA basket (community supported agriculture). I was left in the hands of my truly awful blender that couldn’t blend more than a banana and rice milk before it started smelling like burnt rubber. It was a sad state of affairs.
Then, the powers that be decided to intervene. Moana found out I desperately wanted the Vitamix and sent a private message out to all our friends seeing if anyone could figure out a way to obtain one. Well, people posted craigslist findings and hunted down that friend of a friend who knew someone who had mentioned they might be getting rid of a Vitamix. Unbeknownst to me, all this good energy sent by beautifully giving people resulting in something truly incredible.
My dear friend Sam decided to take matters into her own hands and call the big dogs. A woman I will lovingly refer to as Ms Wendy the Amazing, was the recipient of Sam’s email, which outlined my story, my blogs and my pursuit of health and happiness via the green smoothie.
Often when I think of corporations, I rarely think of actual people working behind the walls. I envision robots and emotionless faces. It turns out, there is heart and love and understanding behind a few of these walls. Vitamix is one of those companies that will forever remind me of that. Ms Wendy the Amazing immediately got back to Sweet Sam and told her they were sending out a brand spankin’ new Vitamix to yours truly. What was the catch, you ask? That’s the best part. There were no strings attached, no ulterior motives, or debt to be paid back. Just a giving company making this girl’s dream come true.
It was Christmas times fifty the day I received that box of gold. I immediately threw every vegetable I could find in the Vitamix and made my first smoothie. The consistency was mind-blowing and the power was awe-inspiring. The flavor was extremely healthy and intensely nutritious. It felt like someone had just given me a unicorn carrying a piece of double chocolate cake during one of those breathtaking Southern California sunsets. Basically, I was in heaven. I was hooked and have blended something every single day since I received it.
Gratitude doesn’t begin to express how I feel about the love and compassion that has been showered over myself and my family. I am daily reminded that there is so much good surrounding each of us. I am blessed by dear and consistently supportive friends who understand when I don’t call or text back. I am blessed by a town that shares in my story and cares for my family in meals and uplifting letters. And now, I am also blessed by a woman I have never met that cares about my health and well-being. I sincerely hope each of you are blessed with a version of “Ms Wendy the Amazing”. May someone come out of the blue and make your day a little brighter and lighter. And hopefully, you can spin right around and lighten someone else’s load. Yep, it’s about to get cliché in here! Pay it forward! So, get out there and bless someone’s day!
