Up the beach, just north of the San Clemente Pier, watermen and waterwomen of all ilk will compete in the 40th Annual San Clemente Ocean Festival competitions to be held Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17, 2016. It is touted as “the greatest show on surf” and for good reason. The weekend is socked with swim contests, stand-up paddleboard races, a dory boat competition and more. As it happens, by way of live entertainment, street fare and surf culture art exhibitions, there is plenty to see and do.
According to its mission statement, the San Clemente Ocean Festival “is a volunteer organization, dedicated to the promotion and support of ocean safety, the environment and the community by providing a quality athletic venue and enjoyable family event.” And after 40 years, the SC Ocean Festival has got it down pat.
Visit the SC Ocean Festival Facebook page for updates and additions as they do happen often. (Links below.) Mark your calendar and strategize your best method of getting through the town be it by bike, on foot, or via bus or shuttle. Expect the most traffic congestion to occur around Avenida Del Mar off El Camino Real, since it all happens around the San Clemente Pier. Don’t let the fear of crowds deter you, however. This is a uniquely entertaining event with something for literally everyone whether you are a competitor or a spectator.
